 A new crew member
I have acquired a lodger.

It started when I found a dead bird on the pillow in my sea berth. After the customary burial at sea, an identical bird suddenly appeared — very much alive.

He seemed remarkably at home and helped himself to the crumbs. Then he flew off across the sea. Heading for land, I thought. But after a while, he came back.

He made himself comfortable deep inside the sea berth, and that’s where he lives now — despite the fact that we are safely moored in La Coruña.

I asked AI what this little fellow might be:

“It’s a Common Chiffchaff (Phylloscopus collybita), or very likely a closely related Phylloscopus warbler.

The photos show several typical features: a small olive-brown bird, pale underparts, a slender bill, darker wing feathers and a relatively short tail. It also appears to be a juvenile, which makes the colouring a little harder to identify.

And apparently, it has decided that Adelante is a better place to stop over than land.” 😊
